CANADA AND AUSTRALIA

PROPOSALS. FOR- MR. BRUCE

-CONSOLATION FOR FAILURE AT HOME. '

(UHITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIOHT.)

(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND £ABLE ASSOCIATION.) OTTAWA, 28th December.

The Australian Press Association is informed on good authority that "wide open" preference, not only on certain specific .commodities but on all articles oi commerce- which the two Dominions produce, will be- proposed by the Canadian Government to Mr. Stanley Bruce on the occasion of his' visit to Ottawa.

It is understood that Canada will propose the extension to Australia of the preference nowvgiven to Britain, if Australia reciprocates with similar • preference ..Th.esA preferences to Britain are dissimilar, Australia's being lower than Canada's, but it will not be suggested that-they be equalised.' Thg. Canadian Government believes the probable rejection of the Imperial Conference preference proposals, especially if applicable to currants and raisins, will improve the chances of a Canadian-Australian agreement.
