A PRESENTATION

FATHER AND SON HONOURED.

Prior to the tea adjournment at the Eastbourne Rugby Football Club's gainon /Saturday the Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. t. H. Mather) presented Mr W J. Heenan with a silver stop-watch khj behalf of the East Harbour Sports Club s boxing section. The Mayor said that east harbour athletes ■ desired to honour Mr. Heenan as a token of the esteem in which they held him. He had acted as instructor for three years to the Boxing Club, and had put through some very promising material, .his work being mostly devoted to schoolboys, amongst whom he had found several promising boxers. The Mayor also presented Mr Heenan's son, known amongst Wellington athletes as "Joe" with a silver pencil, he having assisted his father amongst the boys of the borough. Mr. Heenan, junr., in .replying on behalf of his father and himself, said he deplored the fact that only four young men were available for a local athletic meeting. In a district, he said, where the athletic life had become so firmly established, as wag demonstrated by the popularity of football, .tennis and cricket, he thought there should be many more following running as their summer sport He advised members of the football clubs to take up this sport as assisting them to participate in their favourite sport of Rugby football.. Three cheers for the Messrs. Heenan were heartily given at the conclusion of the presentations.
