A match for {he Walker Shield was commenced at Kelb'urn Park to-day between teams representing the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association and the Wellington Cricket League. Four teams originally entered for the contest, but Canterbury couid not make the trip. In consequence, a Wellington B team was arranged to meet the Auckland B team, and that match was also played at Kelburn Park to-day. Trial ■ games were played by the four teams yesterday. In the principal match this morning the -local team- batted first, and by steady play ran up a total of 146 for nine wickets before the luncheon adjournment. At stages of the game Hutchinsbn, Simpson, and Martin struck good form with the ball, and those batsmen who faced them when bowling at their best found scoring a fairly difficult process. Nevertheless a few. of the local men, Donoghne, G. Renner, and M. Dind made fairly good contributions to the score, and Denison and Brooks were doing well for the last wicket when the adjournment was taken. .The conditions foi play were excellent.
