SEASONABLE WEATHER
, Last, night a- southerly somewhat uh-. eipectedly came up, and heavy rain fellV' for an hour or so. The sheet lightning/ which was visible was really the reflec- ' tion of a distant and heavier storm. Almost ideal holiday weather has prevailed i to-day. The westerly disturbance which intensified on Sunday has ■now passed in the South. Christmas' Day in the southern districts has, according to telegraphic messages, been almost reminiscent of conditions at this season in the Old Country. There' was a strong ■ westerly wind, cold and showery weather, with a fall of -Jiail. A thunderstorm occurred in parts, o£ Canterbury last night; and ; as stated, sheet light-: liing was seen m Wellington when tbe rail fell last evening. Only five points uf rain, however, were recorded. Southerly breezes are prevailing to-day; and, according. to the Direptor of Meteo- . rological Office, these are likely to decrease, and change to northerly, in the: near future, owing to the neutralising ■- effect of another disturbance which is due in the latter part of the week; as '"' . forecaited on Monday. , ■■
