CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE
RECORD PRICES.
(BI TBLEfIRAPH.— PRSSS ASSOCIATION.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day ■The second Christchurch wool sale of the season commenced to-day, when a catalogue of 23,715 bales was offered. In the opinion of experienced buyers, it was tha best catalogue for variety and condition ever offered in the Dominion, ihe season has been exceptionally favourable, the wool being well-grown and bright, and free from dust to an unusual degree. Prices also constituted a record. One catalogue of nchrly 6COO bales was disposed of before the bench. It was probably the best representative catalogue, as it contained many station dips of halfbred and Corriedale, with a snVall proportion of merino. However, values for all classes jumped up on last month's sale by an average of 2d to 2id for halfbred and Corriedale, 2d on crossbred, and from 2d to 3d on all classes of fellmongering lots. Merino sold at practically recent values, the only passings (12 bales) in the first catalogue being of this class. There was an exceptionally full bench of buyers^ All wool-consuming countries were actively represented. Bradford and America followed the local buyers closely for fine wool, the New Zealand mills buying heavily of this class, whilst Continental representatives confined themselves largely to coarser grades. The bidding was remarkably keen, and limits were very elastic. The best prices in the opening catalogue were: Merino 28id, Corriedale halfbred 28d, threequarterbred 22jd, crossbred 2OW, Southdown 2*id, Corriedale pieces 25Jd, halfbred pieces 23|d, crossbred pieces 14£ d, merino locks 13id, crutchings 13d, bellies (Corriedale) 18Jd, halfbred bellies 19|d.
