STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION FEE.
A recommendation submitted by the Finance and Business Committee to the Victoria College Council last night was to the effect that the Professorial Board be empowered to draft a new college regulation providing for the imposition of a sports fee of 10s 6d, according, to the scheme agreed upon between the students and the Professorial Board. *
The chairman (Mr. P. Levi) said.the council shpuld make an effort to coilect the fee. He moved to that effect, but added that the matter would come up finally when the Professorial Board drafted the scheme. Trouble might be experienced with bursars, who did not attend the college office to pay fees. Mr. J. H. Howell moved an amendment, with which the chairman agreed, that the fee be called the College Students' Association Fee. Professor T. A. Hunter did not think any trouble would be experienced about the matter, but,..rather, that the students would welcome the regulation. It was ultimately decided, that the Finance Committee should be authorised to draft the regulation. It was reported that an endeavour had been made to secure Mr. W. H. George's property in Kelburn for the purposes, of a hostel, but that the Government could not agree to a grant being made for the purchase of a leasehold property for hostel purposes, more especially as it was not adaptable to that end. The Education. Department had already made an arrangement to purchase a property near Kelburn Park which could subsequently be used as a hostel.
