The Regent, in a speech expressing pleasure at the unity of the people of Japan in the recent catastrophe, said he was profoundly impressed by the sincere sympathy shown by the friendly Powers of the world. The population of Tokio, according to official figures, is now 1,500,000, about 60 per ceiit. less than before the earthquake.
