HAMILTON, This Day. In. .the Supreme Court, Edward Joseph Darby claimed £200 damages from Charles Stopford for alleged assault. Both parties are members of the Matamata County Council, and after a heated debate at a meeting the parties met at an hotel. Darby said that he put out his hand to Stopford to show no ill-feel-ing, and Stopford struck him, knocking out a tooth and splitting his lip. Defendant said that he only pushed Darby and did'not strike him. He apologised at the next meeting, but Darby refused to accept the apology. His Honour said that the evidence showed that plaintiff was a bumptious, aggravating, and tactless person, and.was to blame for the whole incident. At the same time, defendant was not justified in striking him He awarded £1 damagei O n the claim',
