RELIEF FOR WAIRARAPA
The "Wairarapa Age" says that much good should result from the rainfall on Saturday, there being just sufficient to give renewed vigour to grass and cropß. In Masterton 23 points of rain fell, 'and at Solway 27 points. An agreeable fall in temperature resulted, the maximum on Saturday being 70.2, as against 81.8 on Friday. The week's rainfall totalled 32 points. Mr. S. Mawley, "Ditton," who has kept rainfall records for fortyone years, reports that last month was easily the lowest November for that period in Masterton, only 49 points having fallen. In only five former Novembers has less than 2 inches fallen, -viz., 1885, 1.98 inches; 1897, 1.55 inches; 1908, 1.3 inches ; 1914, 1.77 inches ; 1916, 1.49 inches. . The heaviest falls were in November of 1888, 9.04 inches; 1895, 9.06 inches; 1883, 7.93 inches; 1884, 6.65 inches. The effects of the low fall were not felt very much, owing to the heavy falls prior to November. A good deal of rain fell throughout Saturday night, but a twenty-four hours' downpour would have been acceptable. Agriculturists, dairy farmers, and fattener* all want more rain.
