LONDON, 10th December.
In the Imperial Challenge Shield rifle shooting competition teams competed m follow: 609 teams from South Africa, 574 New Zealand, 380 Great Britain, 277 Australia, and 134 Canada. Ninetythree prizes went to South Africa, 36 to Great Britain, 36 to New Zealand, 32 to .Australia, and 32 to Canada. Shield* are now awarded to organisations showing the highest all-round efficiency. Hilton College, Natal, wins the Senwr Shield, and the following Australian schools are among the prize-winners; Claremont cadete, West Australia, wer» eighth; R.A.N.R. Cadets, Geelong, 19th. 32nd, 43rd, 50th, and 54th; Unley Cadets, South Australia, 34th and 41st. Lord Fortter'a. (the Governor-General) trophy was awarded.to E Company, Uu. ley Cadets, which had 394 competitors. The New Zealand prize-winners include New Plymouth High School Cadets, 14th, 25th, and 40th; A Company, Sixth Battalion, Otago- Cadets. 16th; Nelson College Cadets, 17th. Viscount Jellicoe's (the Governor-General) trophy was awarded to the New Plymouth High School Cadets, which had 316 competitors. Emmasdale Cadets, Heidelberg, South Africa, won the Junior Shield. There were no Australian competitors in this division, owing to the raising of the age limit for the force. The New Zealand prize-winners include New Plymouth Cadets, who were 32nd, 40th, and 53rd; the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, was 52nd.
The King sent a message noting th« satisfactory increase in the number of entries and the increased efficiency, and at the same time expressing the hope that still further impetus would be given to the popularity of these competitions throughout the Empire by the new conditions, the object of which was to encouraga mass efficiency on th* vbroadest lines.
