EMPRESS THEATRE,

A fascinating story of the sawdust ring is starring at the Empress Theatre with beautiful Madge Bellamy in the leading role. The title of the picture, 'The Soul of the Beast," is apt. There are two beasts, human and animal, but it is Oscar, the elephant, who is the mightier souled of the two. As Ruth, Miss Bellamy is winsome and appealing. Cullen Landis, as the youthful violinist, does some fine work, and Noah Beery is a convincing villain. The elephant, Oscar, performs some amazing feats, and. his charming mistress dances and plays about while he stands imperturable and amused. The scenic beauty of the Canadian woods has been captured by the camera, and the picture appeals to every, sense. Supporting the star . feature is a Mermaid comedy, "Three Strikes," which is typical of the studios from which it came. The musical scena, "Three o'clock in the Morning," by Mr. E. Hyman, a clever jazz violinist, is a notable innovation: The Empress Orchestra of sixteen players plays a splendid programme of incidental music under the baton of Mr. M. Dixon, and gave gTeat pleasure in the overture, "Rosamunde."
