Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided over the sittings oJ the Magistrate's Court this morning. Morris Domb, charged with stealing at Whakatano the sum of £6 7s lid, was was in .his possession as an officer of the New Zealand Government, was remanded for a week on the application of Chief-Detective Kemp. Other charges were pending. Mr. J. Scott applied for bail, which was granted in the sum of £200 and one surety of £200. Matilda Emily Latham, for whom Mr. A. B. -Sievwright appeared, pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of household linen of a total value of £15, the property of the Victoria Laundry. Mr. A. B. Sievwright asked for probation, on the ground of her previous good record. The Magistrate remanded her till Friday morning for the purpose of hearing the report of the Probation Officer. Andrew M'Jennet, an ex-constable, charged with stealing £27 7s, the property of the New Zealand Government, was further remanded for a week. Mr. W. Perry appeared for the accused. John Olsen was charged with stealing on 16th November, at Wellington, from the person of Fanny Hayes, a leather purse, with money of a total value of 10s, and with stealing on the same day from Daisy Kneale Mark, one handbag, one boy's shirt, and a number of buttons to the value of £1 l s . Evidence was given that the accused accosted the complainants in Kelburn/and asked the way to another suburb, and snatched the bags away. An admission of the offence by the accused was handed in by the police". The accused stated - that he wanted money and set out to grab purses.
