HOMING PIGEONS

RACES FROM AUCKLAND.

"The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society held its weekly race last Saturday from Auckland. There were no arrivals on the day, but on the second day Mr. J. H. Clark won'with his Blue Cheq., w-1919-343, at 10 hrs 34min 56sec a.m. ; Mr. G. H. Wilson, second; with w-1916----248, Black Hen, at lhr 21min 38sec p.m.; Mr. E. Newson, third, with w-1921-57 Blue Hen, at 2hr 2min lOseo p.m.; and Mr. V. Lamb came fourth, with w-1922-65 Blue Cheq. Hen, at 2hrs 3min 6sec p.m. This week's race was held from Dunedin, . a "distance of 377 miles. The birds' were liberated at 4 a.m., and had a good day, the weather conditions being the -best this season. The race results are as follow:—Mr. G. Wilson's' Blue Cheq. Cock w-1921-318 first, with the good velocity of 1068 yards per minute ;^Mr. Newson's Blue Cheq. Cock w-1918-97, second, velocity 1066 yards per minute; Mr. J. H. Clark s Blue Cheq. Cock w-1919-342' came third, velocity 1065 yards per minute; Mr. A. Lamb's Blue Cheq. Pied Hen w-1919-55, fourth, velocity 1042. This was a good race. Next week's race from Frankton Junction, given good wea,ther, should show up some of the good qualities of the birds. The Petons Homing Pigeon Club held its weekly race from Auckland on Friday last. The birds were liberated on Friday instead of Saturday. The following were the results (air line distance 305 miles):—Mr. J. Crainfield's Blue Cheq.
