"ONE SUMMER'S DAY"

One Summer's Day," a three-act comedy-drama, with excellent possibilities for humour and acting, was presented at the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, last night by a company of amateurs under the direction of Mr. Culford Bell. The story concerns Major Dick Eudyard, who has adopted instead friends son, the mother of whom a gipsy, has deserted him. Later on, the gipsy and her second husband find themselves sorely in need of money, and think !t a good move to pretend to want the boy, for whom they are certain the Major will pay a large sum to keep. I? «^f 11" surprise., the Major plays a bluff that he is willing to hand over the boy, and there is an essence of humour about the climax, which is responsible for some good acting. Mr.- Laurence Hanlon carried off the honours of the m!? n mg \f r — interpretation of the Major Miss Lmnio Nicholas as Maysie, and Miss Phylh s Adams as Chiara, a beautiful gipsy were both well placed. Other parts ? were taken by John Watchman (the Urchin), Chris Tollerton, Harry Brown Leslie Anderson, Stanley Airth,_ Moira Young, Hene Dingle, and Queome Semple. Excellent music was supplied -by Miss Jean Turner's string orchestra lhe performance, which it lit aid of funds for the Rev. FeildenTaylovs mission, will^e repeated this evening.
