LOCAL MANAGEMENT

TOWN v. COUNTRY MATCH.

• The weekly meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association was held last evening. There were present Messrs. C <j. Wilson (chairman), B. L. Salmon P w 3£°ad> ?• M- M'Girr, A. Ronaldson, W R Bock, R. A. Berry, F. Martin, H. J. Buck, and F. Ewen (secretary) The selector, Mr. K. Tucker, reported the selection of the following players to practice for the Plunket Shield representation:—Collins, Barclay, Baker, Kortlang, Hiddleston, Napier, M'Girr Watson Brice, Dempster, James, Banks, Nelson, Massey, Henderson, White Condliffe, Warne, and J. Hutchings. He reported that he would also like to see the following country players in action: —Lambert, Holland, Treadwell, Grant, and Bernau.

The following colts . were chosen for special practice under Messrs. M'Girr and Kortlang: —Nelson (Institute), Massey (Institute), Hamilton (Petone), Foley (Institute), James (Institute), and O'Connor (Midland). Mr. M'Givr suggested that as an aid to selecting a good team to represent the Wellington Province in the matches for the Plunket Shield, a representative match snould be arranged between Wellington "possibles" and a country side. If it was unsuitable to play the match on a Saturday, it might take place on a, week day. The Wellington selector had expressed a desire to see something of the country players in action, and the proposed match would afford a good opportunity of selecting the best country players for inclusion in the provincial representative team. The expenses of bringing the players down to the city could possibly be borne out of the gate receipts. ■

After some discussion, it was decided to play a Town v.' Country match on Friday and Saturday, 21st and 22nd December, and to abandon all championship matches oil the 22nd. The Hawkes Bay, Wanganui, and North Taranaki Associations are to be asked each to nominate one selector to act in conjunction with Mr. D. C. Collins in picking a representative country team.
