COLLISION WITH TRAMCAR
RESULTS IN DEATH OF MOTOR- ! CYCLIST. (BI TELEDIAPH—PRESS. ASSOCIATIOHO CHRISTCHURCH, 25th Nov. George Bernard Condell Barnden, of Linwood, aged 19 years, was killed at , New Brighton last night, as ,the result ! of a head-on collision with a tramcar. Barnden was riding a motor-cycle, | which he obtained only on Saturday morning. Near the pier he was travvelling between the team lines, and apparently _ thought he could pass a motor van, which was standing on the correct side of the road, with its lights attached, before an approaching tram could reach him. The calculation proved wrong, for he ran directly into the lighted lamp of the tramcar, and was carried j27 yards before the car pulled up. He lived only a,- few minutes.
