CHRISTMAS CHEER

PRESENTS FOR THE ORPHANS.

It is expected that the fund instituted by the Wellington Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association for the purpose of providing Christmas cheer for the orphan children and juveniles in the various hospitals and charitable homes will reach the £1000 aimed at. There was some doubt recently whether the four-figure mark would be reached, and a number of clubmen guaranteed to make up the difference to £1000. It is not likely, however, that the guarantors will be called upon, for the receipts are very satisfactory. The art union organised by the club as a means of swelling the fund was drawn on Friday afternoon, in the piesence of police and Press representatives. The drawing was done by an unknown lady—she turned out to be a Mrs. Lewis —who waß met in the street by a club member and invited to select the winning tickets. Another lady, Miss Watson, witnessed the operation. The twenty-five prizes were drawn for as follow (H. Headland), 1; 5640 2; 2785 (J. M'Gowah), 3; 9533, 4; 2614, 5; 2613, 6; 3132, Miss Hodges, 7; 3802 (Mr. Rodd), 8; 5674, 9; 9463 (lan Duncan), 10; 6385 (Jack Quirke), 11; 6977 (A E. Mabin), 12; 7206 (W. Clayton), 13; 2324 14; 5501 (W. Bull), 15- 4067 (G. A. Wilson), 16; 7461 (G. L. Norman), 17; 2611, 18; 443g (Mrs. Abbott), 19; 3500 (A. Lamb),:2o; 9119 (G. Lawson). 21; 5270 (Stella M'Laughtin). 22; 4241 (J. B. Brinsden), 23; 1929 (C. Jansen), 24; 2721 (A. Judd), 25.

The committee wishes to thank the public for their patronage, and particularly appreciates the whole-hearted support given by lady assistants during the campaign. Gratitude is also expressed to the merchants of the city, who made generous contributions to the fund, and to the newspapers.
