EASTBOURNE GALA

BOROUGH COUNCIL ASKED FOR CONCESSIONS.

A series of requests was made by the Eastbourne Rugby Football Club at last Fridays meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council. Permission was sought by the club to charge for admission to the Recreation Ground during the gala to be held on four days between Christmas and the New Year. This request was granted, as was an application to run fences from the ground down to low-water mark at each end of the Recreation Ground. A further application was made for the use_ of the tennis courts during the same period to conduct a tournament, and for the courts to be used for dancing in the evening These two requests were reluctantly refused, Councillors considering that as the courts had only recentlybeen acquired, it was not advisable to lose control even for four days. An amendment that two courts be reserved for the Cak Committee on pa.vm.ent of full fees was also lost.
