RADIUM FUND-RAISING
HELP WANTED—APPEAL TO
CHURCHES.
The Radium (Radiat)on) Appeal mittee met last evening. The Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright) presided, and there were present : Dr. P. D. Cameron, Dr. Macdonald Wilson, Dr. B. Ewen, Mr. F. Castle, Mr. W. J. Gaudin, Mr. Stuart Wilson, Mr. C. H. Chapman, Mr. D. M'Laren; and Mr. P. D. Barcham.
The amount received and promised A*as reported to be a little over £1400. It was agreed that the goal (£IO,OOO net) was still a long way off, and various plans for pushing the campaign were discussed. It was agreed to take steps to hold a Rediation Sunday, and to ask the churches for moral and material help, including a retiring collection. .
Favourable comment was passed on the action of one subscriber ("Typo") in undertaking to give £1 a week till Christmas.
All Health Week workers are to be invited to assist in the Radium Appeal Campaign, and plans for a special canvass day and a street demonstration were tentatively discussed. It is proposed to send a delegation on Monday week to Blenheim, proceeding thence on Tuesday to Nelson, for the purpose of helping to. promote the Radium (Radiation) Appeal Campaign. Mr. F. Castle, who is chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board, and Dr. D. Macdonald Wilson, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, will speak to a public meeting to be held at Petone on Monday night in aid of the appeal. Mr. W. H. Nash, of the "Manawatu Daily Standard," Palmerßton North, and Mr. List, of the "Taranaki Daily News," promised their newspapers' support, and Mr. Nash forwarded a personal donation. Favourable replies to the Appeal were received from the following local bodies : Carterton and Levin Borough Councils. The Hut t County Council replied that as a council it could not act, but that its members individually would do their best for the Appeal.
