DUNEDIN, This Day. The First Church of Otago jubilee services will be celebrated in First Church on Sunday.. Fifty years »go yesterday, 23rd November, 1873, the pre. sent church was opened. Dr. Begg, » famous Edinburgh divine, father of the late Mr. A. C. Begg, of Dunedin. conducted the morning, service, and DV Stuart preached in the evening, This church, which is from a design of the 7 late Mr. R. A. Lawson, is one of the most beautiful in Australasia, and ; a striking object to anyone" approaching the city either by land or sea. First Church has been the cradle of Presbyterianism in New Zealand. Many able men have occupied its pulpit,, from Dr. Burns onwards. Dr. Gibb will, preach on Sunday. Fifty years ago the singing of psalms was the only music permitted in Presbyterian, churches; it was only in Dr. Gibb's time that hymns were'sung in First Church. .
