William James Lance Stevens, who had pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to the' theft of motor tires and tubes valued at £31. 10s, belonging to Royd's Motors, by whom he was employed, appeared to-day before Mr. Justice Adams for sentence. When, arrested, he- said that he had committed the .crime because times were bad and he wished to show his employers TTiat he was doing good business. Mr. Amodeo, who appeared for Stevens, said that he was twenty-one years of age. He was married about four months ago. He had not been in trouble before, and counsel asked for probation. The Crown Prosecutor said that it seemed to be a case in which prisoner should be given a chance. Stevens was admitted to probation for three years.
