At Forthwith, in Texas, Dr. Frederick Cook, Arctic explorer and oil man, was found guilty on all of twelve counts of using the mails to defraud in promoting oil companies, and sentenced to fourteen years iind nine months' imprisonment. A fine of 12,'0Q0 dollars was imposed. Thirteen others received prison terms of one year to eight years, and large fines. Cook's partner, A. K. Eckman, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment, and ordered to pay a similar fine.
