HUTT RIVER BOARD

A meeting of the Hutt River Board ■w,ik held on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Clondon stated that after going into tho_ financial position of the board, ho was satisfied that -the work recommended by the onsineor at Evans' Point should by proceeded' with. The work was ono-of necessity, and should be given attention to. He moved that the engineer be instructed to proceed with the work. A deputation from the Bolmont Ratepayers' Aseociation waited on the board in connection with the work, and pointed out that something was urgently required to be done. Some groynes wero necessary to be put in to save their properties. > The chairman stated that the engineer had recommended certain works to be carried out to meet this difficulty, md if the report was adopted then they would roly on the protection, they asked for being carried out.

Mr. Olendon's motion was put and carried, Mr. Futtor dissenting. Mr. W. H. George wrote congratulating the_ board on tho efficient manner in which the rivor protection had been carried out near his property, and ho enclosed a cheque of £10 in appreciation of the good work done.

Owing- to the illness of the engineer (Mr. Laing-Meason) the ohairman was empowered to arrange for the appointment of a temporary engineer after consulting with Mr. Laing-Meason.
