"IN THE NEXT WORLD"
ROMANTIC DOUBLE TRAGEDY.
(Received 22nd November, 2 p.m.)
PARIS, 21st November. A romantic double tragedy was revealed by the death of Charles Pagan, who shot himself in the heart in prison with a revolver, which a girl friend, Carmen Trigola, had smuggled into his cell hidden in a loaf of bread. With the broken loaf at Pagan's side was a letter from the girl, saying that she was unable to bear the separation, and was determined to kill herself. She gave her lover a rendezvous in the next world. On breaking the loaf and learning of her lover's intention, Pagan had committed suicide. A search was then made for Carmen's room, and she was found dead on her bed, her hand clutching her lover's photograph. After sending the loaf to the prison she had turned on the gas.
