POTATO SHORTAGE
PAY PRICE OR GO WITHOUT.
(Received 12th November, 2 p.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day. Ihe secretary of the Primary Producers Association, in reply to the outcry a °ainst the soaring potato prices,'states that the existing serious shortage, which is fully 50 per cent, below normal requirements, cannot be met till the new crops come in.
The Clarence River crop is practically a failure, owing to seasonal conditions' and the ravages of caterpillars. The iasmasian winter crop is about exhausted. The Victorian and West Australian crops are light and barely sufficient for local requirements. The only present option is to eat 50 per cent, less potatoes or pay high prices.
