AT THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE
THE ROLL CALL OF THE DEAD
PARIS, 12th November
Armistice Day was oelebrated with the usual ceremonies at the Arc de Triomphe, where 468 battle-scarred flags of regiments which have disbanded were brought fromj the army museum and grouped around the Unknown Warrior's tomb, with contingents of orphaned boys and girls. When a rocket was fired from the summit of the Arc de Triomphe every head in the vast assembly was bent for two and a half ifhinutes. M. Millerarid, M. Poincare, Marshal Joffre, Marshal Foch, and others were present. Elsewhere, a roll-call of the men, who fought was read in the presence of the boys and girls 111 every town and village in France. When the name of the dead was- called, a child responded: "Mort, pour la patrie."
