A MOTOR ACCIDENT

A motor accident of a somewhat serious nature occurred at the Summit on the road over the Rimutaka range' late on Saturday night, as a result of which two of the passengers are now under treatment at the Wellington Hospital. A party of eight members of Tano Fama's "Dick Whittinßton" pantomime company (including Mr. Fama) left Featherston for Wellington after the performance on Saturday evening At the top of the hill the car Ln off the road at- a point where widening operations made the course somewhat confusing. Before the driver realised the danger of his position, the car was precipitated down a steep hill for forty or fifty feet, and after turning over three times was brought up against some logs. The passengers were flung in all directions, and all were more or less injured. Miss Kilty Gresham suffered a broken collarbone, and Mr. Charles Parnell the well-known pianist, who was actmg ns conductor of the orchestra, was. badly cut about the face and had hia jawbone fractured, in addition to receiving other bodily injuries. The sufferers had an unenviable experience waiting for assistance from Fealhcrston, for they wero obliged to endure four hours in the pouring ram before relief arrived. The party has a miraculous escape, for if the ca~r had not been stopped in its descont by the tree trunk it must have crashed down the hillside to the river a hundred feet below.
