FIRE AT WAIHI

(BT TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

WAIHI, 6th November. Shortly after 7 o'clock the other evening an outbreak of fire occurred in the residence of Mr. W. j^l. Wallnutt, in Roycroft street. The fire originated in a wardrobe in the front bedroom, and quickly ran up the wall. The fire brigade was promptly on the scene, and the outbreak was soon in hand. When the lire was discovered a garden hose was used until the arrival of the brigade. The damage is estimated at about £40; insurances total £350, in the State office. A remarkable coincidence in connection with the fire is that only the previous evening Mr. Wallnutt, as Mayor of the town, had successfully appealed to members of the brigade {recently resigned) to resume office.
