SERIOUS ASSAULT
FIREMAN BADLY BATTERED.
Kicked and punched into a state of semi- '.consciousness, aNireman on the Marama was found in: the firemen's quarters about 8 o'clock last evening. The injured man, P. W. M'Kenzie, was lifted into a bunk, but the police later being notified, he was admitted to the Hospital at 11.30.o'clock. Hib face was badly damaged, and, although no one could be found by the police to testify to the nature of the. assault, it is supposed that the unfortunate man was asked by some of the unionist members of the crew to produce his "book" failure tp do this resulting in his being fiercely attacked. His condition to-day is stated to" be fair. So far, no arrest* have been made. .it
