ELDERLY LADY'S DEATH

FATALITY AT FEATHERSTON.

(BT TELZQKAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CARTERTON, This Day. An elderly lady named Mrs. Hannah Mary Simes, aged 68 years, a widow, residing at 168, Moorhouse avenue, Christchurch, met her death at the Featherston railway station last night. Deceased had been staying with friends in Featherston. With a party of croquet players she went to Jla9tevton, returning at night by a goods train, which reached Featherston at 8.45. It was a long train, and it was pitch dark when the train pulled up. The passenger car was a good distance from the station. It is staied that ladies were advised not to leave the carriage, but deceased and several others did so. Shortly afterwards deceased was missed and a.search revealed the body in a ditch alongside the line. She had apparently tripped on the signal wires and fallen into the ditch.
