THE SINGAPORE BASE
LONDON, 30th October
Addressing the Lyceum . Club, Admiral Sir Guy Gaunt strongly supported the Singapore base. As an Australian he held that "as Australia 'came in with both feet' in 1914 we must stand by Australia now." He«believed that eventually we should "get into the air," but the transition would be long. If later there was no longer need for a navy, Britain should have an air base at Singapore.
