HATAITAI TUNNEL
MOTORISTS WANT IT "WIDENED!'
The proposed new tunnel through Mount Victoria was discussed at last nights meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club, when the president, Mr. U M. Banks,, moved: "That ill the opinion of this meeting of motorists, the proposed Hataitai tunnel from Ellice street, which proviaes only for combined tram and vehicular traffic, will only meet the "requirements of the immediate future, and that "unless the City' Council has in view a scheme for building another tunnel later, the proposed tunnel be made wide enough to provide separate ways for vehicles as well as for trams and pedestrians. r

The proposals of the council were not satisfactory and the tunnel should be widened to permit of use. by f vehicles on separate ways. •■i Yv&' Wilson staled that the council had not made public what'the ™nneJ ; vas going to cost, and it should be more businesslike about the matter. He understood that the money to be spent on the tunnel would mean an addition of £12,000 anuuallv to the rates.
