FIRE IN A LAUNDRY
An outbreak of fire was discovered about 7.15 o'clock'this morning on the premises of the -Victoria Laundry Company, Ltd., Hanson street, but the brigade, arriving speedily on the scene, the names were suppressed before they had a chance to" spread from the drycleaning and renovating room where the fire had commenced. Some hundreds of uniforms were badly damaged, and the building, though, of course affected, was not burnt to such an extent that the work could not be proceeded with. Using the emergency machinery, drycleaning operations were resumed by the employees about 10.30 o'clock. It is thought that the fire originated through the second switch of an electric motor being left on last night, the motor, in consequence starting at full speed when the mam current was turned on this morning. The particular building affected was insured for £800 in the Commercial Union, and the machinery and fittings for £340 in the same office. It is understood that the damaged goods are also covered by a substantial policy
