WALLACE STREET ROUTE

AN IMPROVEMENT UNDER CONSIDERATION.

In answtv to a question as to the probability or otherwise of an early start upon the driving through of the Wallace street tram extension to provide an alternative route from the city to Riddiford street, .and thence on to the bays and Ne«"town, the Mayor (Mr. R, A. Wright.' M.P.) stated this morning that just atthe present a proposal for a deviation of the line at one point was being in.quired into, thaf the extension might be laid down with the best grades obtainable on the route.

As was stated in ".The Post" some weeks ago, several alternative schemes have been put forward as possible improvements upon the immediately less expensive, but ultimately perhaps less satisfactory, plan of using the line as it stands, and simply continuing on along Wallace street -to New street,, John street, and so to Eiddiford street.'
