PALMERSTON'S PLANT
NEW BOROUGH POWER STATION.
A, fine new electric power station has been erected by the Palmerston North Borough" Council at Terrace End, and will, before long be in operation for the purpose of supplying power and light to the borough until current from Mangahao shall be available and afterwards as a_ stand-by and auxiliary generating station to the Mangahao scheme. The total capacity of the plant, which is housed m a massive brick and concrete building, will be about 1100 k.w., generated by three producer gas engines of 450 h.p. each, with six cylinders to each engine. These are of the vertical National type working on producer gas furnished by Mond pressure gas producers. The borough _gasworks will be aolngaide. Provision is made in the power house for taking current from Mangahao when that station is ready. In i the meantime the Palmerston- station will supply a certain amount of current to the ManawatuOroua Power Board io help build up a load ready for Mangahao,
