| From Ist November, as a result of j the September quarterly adjustments, the pay of maritime workers will be increased as follows :—Masters, officers, seamen, shipwrights, cooks, and stewaids, 7s 6d per month; painters, dockers, and waterside workers, Id per hour. The aggregate effect upon the interState shipping companies will be equivalent to £50.030 annually. This, added to the increases granted under the June adjustments, equals £203,CG0 annually, it is reported that an all-Australian strike of watersiders is imminent. The water&iders have been instructed to hold stop-work meetings over twentyfour hours every alternate Wednesday throughout Australia, commencing on ,7th November. The action is taken with a view to securing the abolition of the deep-sea bureau, through which nonunionists are employed. The report lacks official confirmation. Mr. Morris, president of the Waterside Workers' Federation, scouts the suggestion of a general strike, but adds that stop-work meetings have been convened in Sydney.
