What Sir lan Hamilton .calls a "providential letter " has reached him from Mr. John Still, an ex-officer of Candy Ceylon, who declares himself to be "probably the only person in the world able to explain the all-important offensive of M *St?',\ Sil" lan Hami't°n has sent Mr Still's letter to "The Times." Mr. Still explains that he happened to be reading Sir lan Hamilton's Gallipoli diary when he realised for the first time that he could solve several mysteries, bn- lan Hamilton ordered a brigade to attack the key position of Tekke Tepe on Bth August. Still and a few other officers had reconnoitred and reached the top and iound it empty, and so informed the brigade headquarters. Still, also as adjutant received Hamilton's order "f attPck with the addition of the woids, that "the Commander-in-Chief considers the operation essential to the success of the whole campaign." Unfortunately only his battalion received the order, and only on 9th August, because the origadier-niajor got lost. The battalion reached the top of Tekke Tepe, where it was cut off, and only a few survived and were made prisoners, including SUI himself.
