CHRISTCHURCH, 30th October. Potatoes are apparently a, drug on ther market, and- merchants. are adopting the hand-to-mouth principle regarding them,'i.e., just purchasing from farmers to meet any requirements. i they may have.-;--.-Farmers, have been round the': merchants this week trying to dispose of lots up to-seventeen tons, so evidently there- are potatoes still to be. had in Canterbury if required., In'respect'to' Partridge. peaSj advices from Home confirm the statement made last week that the quantity and quality are better than .usual. In consequence it is hard to do business in peas grown in the Dominion.
There has been a little business done in chaff during the past few days, purchasers preferring to buy on "samples rather than on grade. Two or three fair sized parcels of perennial ryegrass have been shipped north, but in other seeds business shows little activity..;
