W. J. SMITH AND SON, v : The Butchers , (Opp. Devine's Empire Hotel), Palmer. ston 1, North.

At no period in the history of Palmerslon North, has there been such rivalry in the butchering trade as has been experienced of late. Shops have, opened in every direction, and auction-rooms have donned the mantle of the allegedly good Samaritan, and sold meat at any old price, and the public for the time feastod on. beef and mutton to their hearts' content; but soon the awakening is coming. People must eventually realise that the old established firms, such as W. J. Smith and Son, who built up their trade on good quality meat, must coma up on top. No flash in. the pan is going to disorganise a trade that is built on* quality, and if everyone studied their health by eating the best meat only, there would be less sickness • iv" the Dominion to-day. Stick to.', the firm who sticks to you, and supplies nothing but the best of.meat, all killed under Government inspection at the borough abattoirs. Smith, and Sons guarantee their beef, mutton, pork, and veal to be the best that money can buy; it is their aim to supply Al quality similar to what is daily served to Devine's Empire Hotel and all the leading eat. mg houses of Palmerston North.

GEO. SPINLEY, MOTOR BODY BUILDER AND ENGINEER, Rangitikei Street, Palmerston N.

Mr. Spinley, the well-known motorbody builder and engineer, of Rangiti-kei-street, continues to give good service to the car and lorry owners of the Palmerston North district. Mr. Spinley is the local agent for the North British Solid Band P>,ubber Tires, and in the fitting and supply of these he is something in the nature of a specialist. His plant includes a powerful hydraulic press for the purpose of tire fitting, and there is no shop or factory in the universe where car and motor-traction owners can get better service. If Mr. Spinley contracts to do a certain thing, you can rely on that being carried out to the very letter. Large stocks of tires of all the best makes for lorries and heavy traction vehicles are stocked, and can be promptly fitted to any make. Mr. Spinley's premises are in a half demolished state at present' owing to rebuilding operations 1, which are so general in tho business centre of Palmerston North, but this makes no difference to the good service rendered by Mr. Spinley. "Entrance to his temporary premises is by right-of-way next his old shop.

THE JUNCJION HOTEL, Longburn.

Mr. W. Leamey, the new proprietor of that old-established hostelry, known as the Junction Hotel, at Longburn, is jnst tho right man in the right place, and there's no gainsaying: the fact that better liquor and ale was never dispensed over a bar counter than Mr. Leamey and his assistants provides the public with at Longbum. The Junction Hotel certainly does not compete with the Palmeraton North houses from an accommodation point of view;' nevertheless, good, clean beds and first-class reeals are always obtainable by those whose business takes them to this suburb of Palmerston North. Mr. and Mis. Leamey have resided in the Longburr, district for five years past, and are just completing their first year as licensees of tho Junction Hotel, and deserve to be congratulated on the capable manner in which the house has been run. Mr. and Mrs.. Fred. Swindale. the previous holdenj of the license, were extremely popu^ lar with everyone, and consequently were hard people to follow in the footsteps of; but the present licensee has succeeded beyond doubt, and from tho public's point of view, it is hoped that ha will-continue to dispense all liquors true to label, and make this feature an outstanding one at the Junction Hotel.

C. BRYANT, Willow and Seagrass Furniture Maker. Factory: 26, King Street, Palmerston N.

. Mr. Bryant, whose factory is part of the old Salvation Hall, facing King street, Palmerstou North, manufactures willow and seagi-ass furniture, baskets, travellers' hampers, etc., and supplies the wholesale trade only. It is a wellr recognised fact that Mr. Bryant is an .expert tradesman, and all furniture that leaves his factory is well-constructed on cane and iron frames, and those who appreciate quality goods always ask for Bryant's because it can be relied upon to. stand the wear and tear of many years, and, what is more important still, is the- fact that Bryant-constructed seagrass and wiilow-vork furniture is imiuune from the grab. The willows from v.hich Mr. Bryant takes his supply are grown on ground that does not force top quickly the, tender «anes; and after being harvested these are subject to a sp^oial process, which eliminates all possibility of the worm. This process is a special secret , one that makes Bryant furniture wotlli a good deal more than the ordinary hurriedly - constructed goods. ' Wholesale merchants, travellers, and others are invited to write Mr. Bryant, re travellers' hampers, baskets, and furniture of all kinds.
