ATTEMPTS TO OBTAIN A SETTLEMENT
A COMMITTEE SET UP.
(BT TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WESTPORT,' 29th October. At a largely attended public meeting: in the Town Hall to-night) addresses on the coal mining; dispute were given by Messrs. Bishop (secretary of the Coal Mine Owners' Association), Macbride Lock, and Whittle (district miners' delegates to the recent conference). Various points of the dispute were traversed, sometimes a bit heatedly, but on'the whole in a manner calculated to give the publio a good understanding ,of the poaitioa from the points of view of the contending parties. A committee was set up to endeavour to devise some means by which an amicable settlement of the dispute could be effected.
