IMPORTANT MATTERS DEALT WITH. Some important matters were dealt with at the meeting held recently of the Grand Master and Board of Directors of the New Zealand Branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows. , Consideration was given to the War Members' Belief Fund. The war in one way and another has cost the society £30,000, and payments have been made from funds and surpluses, leaving a balance owing to lodges of £6094 18s sd. Provision has been made for liquidating this sum as follows : (a) 33 l-3rd per cent, of the existent • liability as at 30th June, 1983, is to be the basis of the call on the 1920 valuation figures, (b) On receipt of the report of the 1925 valuation, §Q per cent, of the existent liability at that date is to be called up. (c) On receipt of the report of the 1930 valuation, the amount to radeem and finally close the fund is to be called up. Interest on the War Members' Relief Fund due to districts is to be paid half-yearly. The meeting also dealt with the report from a delegation appointed at a previous meeting regarding the affairs of the United WestJand District. Tha finances of many of the lodges in thw district being impaired and showing a deficiency, all other districts are contributing a portion of their surpluses towards maintaining a strong financial position. The board resolved that, the district be required to change its registered office from Westport to Greymouth. with executive officers, consisting of the district secretary, district treasurer, and district trustees, lesident in the latter town; that tha district be called upon to arrange for the immediate sale of Denniston. and Reefton hall properties, also the sale of the piano belonging to the Dennistou lodge and the proceeds of the sales to be credited to the funds to which these moneys belong, the deficiency i n the Denniston Lodge Management Fund being liquidated by levies on the members of that lodge.
