(Received 30th October, noon.) j LONDON, 29\h October. j The report of the committee appointed by the Ministry of Labour to inquire into the conditions and supply of domestic labour recommends the instruction of schoolgirls in domestic science. On the completion of the course they should be given certificates of proficiency, and scholarships should be provided -for those who are desirous of completing a r^iecialised course. Regarding women in private domestic employment, the report recommends that there should be, as an alternative to unemployment, a benefit Echeme under which a pension of 15s a week would be obtainable up to the age of 55.
Another recommendation is that women domestic workers who are statutorily qualified should be entitled to a Parliamentary vote on the same residence qualifications as men. The report urged that unofficial organisations auch as the Young Women's Christian Association, and private individuals, should do their-utmost to promote the provision of better social, recreational, and educational advantages for domestic workers, and to uphold the dignity of domestic service as a skilled and honourable profession.
