WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Wellington Bowing Association was held last evening, Mr. C. .T. Symonds presiding.

Commenting on the annual report, Mr. G. Bright said he hoped to see the selector given a free hand in selecting the inter-provincial four crew, and he would like to see the clubs sink their club interests when the-crew was picked. He contended that last season the crew picked to represent' Wellington province was not the best available.

Mr. M. A. Turner contended that last season's inter-provincial crew was the best that could be picked, arid had it not been for the fact that the crew had been badly boated, there was no doubt that the Wellington representatives would have been well in the hunt at the finish.

The annual report and balance-sheet, particulars of which have been published in "The Post," wera adopted. A proposal to amend the rules' of the association by which the number controlling local rowing affairs would be curtailed from twenty to nine (three delegates from each club) met with a mixed reception. Under the new rules, the presidents and vice-presidents of the association would not retain their voting powers, as it was alleged that when one of the three local clubs desired to "work a point," the club in question would bring the voting power of its particular vice-presidents to bear. The proposals occasioned a warm discussion, the outcome of which was an amendment that the association retain one president and one vice-president with power to vote at executive meetings. The amendment was carried.

The alterations to - rules as recommended by the executive, with the amendment curtailing the number of presidents to one, were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— President, Sir Francis Bell; vice-presi-dent, Mr. A. W. Newton; hon. secretary, Mr. E. Diehl; hon. auditor, Mr. 0. W. Mack.

In connection with the interprovincial fours, Mr. M'Grath urged that the delegates should, with their clubs, go into the question of the interprdvincial fours race, and endeavour to get an assurance _ that the various, clubs would make available for selection in the crew all their club members.
