SATURDAY'S GAMES

OFFICIAL OPENING THIS WEEK,

Practice games were played on a number of grounds on Saturday afternoon, though the Old Boys v. Present Boys matches; at Wellington College did not take place. The Hutt and Petone clubs were out on their respective grounds, while Midland and Thorndon practised at Anderson Park and Wellington at Kelburn Park. ,The form shown with bat and ball indicated that the early games in the senior competition should produce good cricket. Junior clubs were also at practice, and a start was made with the Wellington League and the Y.M'.C.A. Leaeue competitions. The official opening of the season as far as the Wellington Cricket Association is concerned takes place to-morrow for practice and on. Saturday for inter-club competitions.

The Boys' Institute Cricket Club held its official opening at Newtown Park on Saturday afternoon, about 300 players taking part in trial'games. Members of the Institute Old Boys' Club Were iv attendance. In declaring the- season open, Mr. (J. A. Troup, president of the Boys' Institute Clttb, referred to the growth of the club from ten teams in 1918 to twenty-eight teams this season.
