LYALL BAY
The Lyall Bay green was opened by the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.), in the presence of a large gathering. I'he president, Mr. J. Dillon, in welcoming the Mayor and Mayoress and visitors, mentioned that the club's membership now stood at 90. The prospects tor the season looked good, and competition should be keen. He stated that the green was in a much better condition than was anticipated. Four silver badges had been donated by the late secretary, Mr. G. Salt, for a club rniks competition. The Mayor congratulated bowling clubs generally on the fact that they had provided and maintained their own Wounds, for the City Council found it difficult to meet the needs of the community for grounds' for other sports. The lact was that on a fine Saturday afternoon the city grounds were overcrowded, and with a'lively prospect of an increased population, the council would lie compelled to provide further grounds. « was also to be borne in mind that in the last few years an insistent demand had come from the women for sports grounds, and the City Council was doing its best to meet the demand. iUVs.
