race Papyrus on 20th October. Zev is a hrown colt by Tlic Fly mi out of Miss Kearney, and on the dam's side has such famous ancestors as Oriole, Star Shoot, and Eavon dOr, and on the sire's side Sandringham, Mastetto, and King Ban. Zev's height is 16 hands £ inch, and he has a 22-foot stride. He has won for his owners during the last two, years 175,000 dollars, winning as a- two-year-old five races, taking second place- four times, third place twice, and being "unplaced_ once, and as a three-year-old he won eight races and was unplaced once, when he'was kicked by another horse. His besti time for a mile is lmin 37sec, a mile and a quarter 2min 5 2-ssec, a mile and three-eighths 2min 15sec, and a mile and five-eighths 2min 44 3-ssec.
The Jockey Club's announcement named My Own and Untidy as first and second substitutes respectively in the event of Zey's possible sickness and disability, which provision is included in the agreement. Meanwhile Zev is steadily training, traversing three furlongs to a mile and a quarter, and galloping various controlled speeds under the guidance of his trainer, Hildreth. Papyrus had another easy day, his trainer, Jarvis, taking him the usual leisurely walk'round the main track. Later he cantered five fuvlongs, followed by another short walk and another canter. Papyrus will begin serious work next week.
