A report from Nagasaki says that though it is impossible to estimate the earthquake casualties in Tokio, it is feared that they exceed those of the great earthquake of 1856. which killed over a hundred thousand in Yedo alone. It is reported that spinning mills near Mount Fujiyama collapsed and eight thousand operators perished. Hakone, a famous mountain' resort, haß almost been wiped out. Tokio was still burning late on Sunday night, and explosions were frequently heard. Intermittent earth-, quakes continue. . .;..':,.. -_'
. Early estimates, snow that more than 100,000 people are dead in Tokio. Many small Japanese cities have been completely destroyed. It is feared that the number of deaths exceeds half a million.
