SAMOAN ADVANCE PARTY
A most enthusiastic -gathering of the members of the Samoan Advance Party, which occupied Samoa in August, 1914, was held at Dustin's Rooms on Saturday evening. Mr. W. G. Morpeth presided. In connection with the endeavour to prepare a history of the Advance Party, it was stated by Major Gibbs that arrangements had been made to.write the story. The meeting passed a resolution urging that tho Canteen Board might be induced to alter its decision with regard to the granting of funds for the publication. Father Segrief paid a great tribute to the nurses who accompanied the party. They had faced dangers in as great a proportion as the men, and they had won through. They had done splendid work, which could be only realised by the men who went away. He called for three hearty cheers for - the seven nurses of the party, of whom two were present. A brief but happy response -was made by Sister Brandon. Other toasts "were: "The Samoan Force," "The Naval Escort," "Fallen Comrades," and "The Army." An excellent musical proeravnme was contributed to by Messrs, P Barcham H. Wilson, R. L. Evatt, Edwards and D. C. Armstrong.
