With reference to.the proposal of the ManawaturOroua River Board to. put a cutting through the Matakarapa swamp to straighten the course of the Mariawatu River,;and so prevent the periodical flooding :pi- 70,000 = acres of ■ land- between Palmerston;. North and Foxton, a conference with the Foxton Harbour Board, the other-body concerned; was held on Saturday at Foxton. Mr. J. Linklater,,M.P:, presided.
It was resolved that the • River Board's engineer hold a consultation with ' the Harb'oiir Board and Public Works engineers, investigate, and present ;a report. . . ■ .; •y- - -••
