A meeting of ratepayers interested in the proposals of the Hutt Stiver Board to clear and deepen, thechannel <5f the Waiwetu streanj was', addressed by th« chairman of the' Board (Mr; W. T Strand) in the' Eptini School last Friday 1. Mr. Sti-afid' said it" was proposed that the first Cost of clearing the stream, estimated sit something ' tinder i £10C0, should be borno equally by tli« Lower Hutt Borough Council, the Hutt County Cc.imcu, aMd the Government; which was interested in the drainage of the Waddmgtoh Settlement, while the annual maintemncg charges, estimated at about £200, would be borne by the Hutt River Board. The soiienw would mean that a small area, at pruseno outaidethe river district,, would have to be constituted, a special drainage area. The proposals wei'o fully discussed, and finally approved by the meeting.
